A three-year-old child was killed and his father was injured after their motorcycle was struck from behind by a van in Delhi’s Dwarka area on Saturday night, according to police. The incident took place near a power station located in Sector 16B. The father, identified as Vishnu, was riding the motorcycle with his young son seated in front near the handlebars when a Maruti Eeco van allegedly rammed into them from the rear. Following the collision, both were transported to Indira Gandhi Hospital. Doctors declared the child dead on arrival, while the father received medical treatment for injuries.
Authorities from the Dwarka North police station responded to the scene after receiving a call regarding the crash. Upon their arrival, they found a group of bystanders assaulting a man, who was later identified as Deepak, age 27, and believed to be the driver of the van involved in the accident. Police intervened, stopped the assault, and detained the accused driver. The police are awaiting medical examination results to determine whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
A forensic team conducted an examination of the site and collected evidence. Both vehicles involved in the collision were seized under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. Following review of medical reports and a preliminary investigation, a case was filed under Sections 106(1) for causing death by negligence, 125(A) for actions endangering life, and 281 for rash driving under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
