A 23-year-old Indian student from Andhra Pradesh has died in the United States after suffering from health complications just months after completing her studies. The student, identified as Rajyalakshmi “Raji” Yarlagadda, had recently graduated from Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi and was actively searching for a job to begin her professional career. According to a GoFundMe campaign created by her cousin, Raji had travelled to the United States with the hope of improving her family’s future. Her parents are marginal farmers in Karmechedu village in Bapatla district, and she had long hoped that securing a career abroad could help support them financially.
In the days leading up to her death, Raji reportedly suffered from a severe cough and chest pain that lasted several days. On the morning of November 7, her alarm sounded, but she did not wake up. Emergency responders later confirmed her passing. A medical examination is being conducted in the United States to determine the exact cause of death, as the circumstances remain unclear.
Her family is now facing significant emotional and financial hardship. Along with the shock of losing their daughter, they are burdened with costs related to transporting her body back to India, funeral arrangements, and pending educational loans. The GoFundMe campaign has set a goal of $125,000 to help meet these expenses and provide some stability for her grieving family. Friends, community members, and supporters are being encouraged to assist however they can.
