Police are investigating the death of a 21-year-old cyclist from Haslemere who was discovered seriously injured on a Sussex road on Friday evening, November 7. Emergency services were called at 8:47 p.m. to the A286 near Eastbourne, around 500 metres south of the junction with Kings Drive, where the man was found lying on the roadway. He was taken to hospital with critical injuries, but he died the following morning, Saturday, November 8.

Shortly after police arrived at the scene, officers received information regarding a silver BMW that may have been involved in a collision with the cyclist. A 21-year-old local man, believed to be the driver of the BMW, was located and arrested. He was initially detained in connection with the incident and was later further arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, along with additional offences related to the collision. Police confirmed the vehicle was recovered for examination.

Detective Sergeant Rob Baldwin, who is part of the investigation, urged witnesses or anyone with available dashcam footage to come forward. Officers are particularly interested in sightings of the silver BMW in the area around the time the cyclist was found. Baldwin requested that anyone who may have information contact the police by emailing collision.appeal@sussex.police.uk and referencing Operation Plumpton.

The investigation remains ongoing as police work to determine the full circumstances that led to the cyclist’s death.
